Girls on the Run® (GOTR) is a nationally recognized 501(c)3 positive youth development program that combines running with an interactive curriculum to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls.  Each 10 – 12 week session includes physical training and life-coaching lessons.  The session ends in a 5K (3.1 mile) “Fun Run.”

At Mercy, GOTR is offered in the spring, to girls in Grades 3 – 5.  Practices are held twice a week after school.  Each practice includes a lesson from GOTR’s core curriculum.  The lessons address many aspects of girls’ development, including their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being.  They also provide girls with tools to make positive decisions and avoid risky behavior.  The program uses running to teach social and personal skills.  Girls are exposed to themes that emphasize feeling good about who they are, setting goals, celebrating their accomplishments and respecting their gifts and strengths.
