Students use inquiry and critical thinking in their daily learning process; making connections to previous math knowledge and life experience, which allows them to flourish academically and spiritually through middle school and on to higher learning. Through collaborative and respectful discourse in class, students share strategies and ideas that challenge peers of all ability levels to stretch their thinking, persevere in productive struggle and successfully navigate our rigorous math program.

Middle school social studies tells the story of civilization's beginnings, the expansion and development of cultures across the "old" and "new" worlds and culminates with the study of the formation and continued cultivation of our great nation. Utilizing multimedia and hands-on collaborative opportunities, the drama is brought to life through multifaceted learning strategies, student involvement in discourse, projects, and direct instruction. Through each course year, the themes of communication, transportation, innovation, geography, and culture are examined and related to how they have always been, and continue to be, integral to the success of civilizations across the globe. An understanding of how compromise, embracing diversity, and maintaining faith are truly the ties that bind the human family remains a central focus throughout our coursework.

Parents will find the teaching of the faith at Mercy is robust. Students have a combination of classroom lessons that impart knowledge about the faith, with many and varied opportunities to practice the faith. Students will have anywhere from 3 to 5 explicit religion classes per week, where they will study the content for the religion standards for their grade, as indicated by the links below. In addition, all students will enjoy participating in weekly Mass on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am. In 2022, Cardinal Gregory asked all schools to have a special focus on the Eucharist, as the summit and source of our faith. Faculty will receive in-servicing on this topic, along with a review of each of the standards below.
The experiential aspects of the faith include but are not limited to all of the following:
- Morning prayers
