Religious Education
The Office of Religious Formation provides religious education for children in public and private (non-Sectarian) schools, as well as sacramental preparation and enrichment activities for all Mercy Parish children. Children who are members of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and are enrolled in a Catholic school are not required to attend Mercy Religious Formation classes in order to receive a sacrament through Our Lady of Mercy.
Sacramental Preparation
Preparation for the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation take place within our Religious Formation Program. Parishioners who are enrolled in Catholic school and want only to receive a sacrament at Mercy should submit a Religious Formation Registration Form (requesting the sacrament, only) to the Religious Formation office, along with payment and a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate. Everyone receiving a sacrament through Our Lady of Mercy is required to fulfill the special requirements for that sacrament (i.e., attending parent meetings, attend retreat, service hours).
- First Reconciliation and First Communion: Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion takes place during Grades 1 and 2, and the sacraments are celebrated in the Spring of the 2nd Grade year.
- Confirmation: Preparation for Confirmation takes place during Grades 7 and 8, and Confirmation takes place in late Spring of the 8th Grade year. The program emphasizes education and spiritual growth through meaningful service opportunities, both within and outside of our Parish, a retreat, and homily reflections.
- Teen RCIA: If you have an older teen (ages 15-19) who would like to be confirmed, we have a new program created just for them. They will meet on Tuesday nights (about twice a month) as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, under the direction of our Youth Minister, Becca Hadley.
